Collingwood's Stomping Ground Brewing Co is releasing a special beer to coincide with Midsumma Festival, Victoria's premier queer arts and cultural festival running from January 15th to February 5th.
The beer, a Belgian style wheat beer with peaches - appropriately called PRIDElweiss - will raise funds for Midsumma Futures, a year-long mentoring program for early-career artists and culture-makers from LGBTQIA+ communities.
"Supporting emerging queer voices is at the heart of this partnership," says Midsumma CEO, Karen Bryant. "Stomping Ground Brewing Co is a small local business enthusiastic about enabling entrepreneurialism and they understand the value of mentorship that programs like Midsumma Futures can provide.”
PRIDElweiss will be available on tap during the three week festival at dozens of bars and pubs around Melbourne interested in supporting the initiative and Stomping Ground will donate 50 cents from every pot sold to Midsumma Futures.
Stomping Ground Brewing Co. is an independent brewery less than four months old but it is fast tracking its expansion due to the neighbourhood voting with their feet and initial capacity maxing out. They brew a wide range of beer styles to cater for the diversity of customers at its beer hall and some of the beers are available at an increasing numbers of bars and pubs near the brewery.
“It is important to us that we are meaningfully engaged in our community and we thought brewing PRIDElweiss was a great way for us to celebrate, and raise funds for, an exciting aspect of Melbourne’s culture”, says Stomping Ground’s Steve Jeffares.
PRIDElweiss can be found at the following venues during Midsumma (from Jan 15). Contact a venue to be sure they have it on tap when you are visiting.
